Breakdance - Personal Project 2

Adrian's latest images from his breakdance project

The second stage to Adrian's breakdance shoot which featured a few months ago was to shoot the dancers from underneath as though they were floating above him. "I wanted to produce a series of images from an alternative point of view that also showed the varying shapes and contortions that a breakdancer goes through. I wanted the images to have more impact and contrast than the previous set which were more subtle in both lighting and feel."

The theory to the shoot was quite simple however things were not as easy as I expected as we had to keep cleaning the Perspex as it got marked very quickly. We constructed a large 4ft high platform with staging and then fixed the Perspex to the top which gave a good window to shoot through. In order to eliminate any reflections we blacked out the floor and sides under the Perspex and we than constructed a black tent over the whole set. The idea was to have as few reflections as possible and as much black for our background so that we wouldn't need to cut anything out to black after. We also had to contend with a lot of scratches on the perspex(sorry Ted!)from the dancers shoes and clothes and these were then retouched out after the shoot. The Perspex was also prone to moving quite a lot so we had to continually realign it between shots.

The breakdancers also found it quite strange having someone looking up at them from the floor!
