Oi, Ronaldo, Watch This!
Army football and the chance to shoot a feature for Camouflage magazine.
John Butterworth the art director wanted a Roy of the Rovers/Nike ad feel to the whole feature but we still had to hold some realism and of course shoot real players not models.

I requested some crash mats and as much time as possible to shoot this feature. We arrived at Aldershot the home of the army football team on a wet and fairly miserable day. The Major in charge was very helpful and we soon had six of the first squad at our disposal for the whole day. So things were looking up, but still no crash mats!

However the models were all more than happy to jump, dive and scissors' kick as often as they could with no soft landing. Every time I asked for more all I got was "certainly sir, no problem"!! It's not often you get this level of commitment and enthusiasm and I think the images show that. The soldiers were fantastic and off course more than happy to have their pictures taken. Dare I say it, but I think they even enjoyed it !! Surely not I hear you say.
