Dwain Chambers - Sport Magazine
Adrian was recently commissioned by Ben Turner at
Sport Magazine to shoot a cover and feature on Dwain Chambers as he starts his
comeback in UK and world athletics.
Ben wanted to portray a sense of redemption on the cover with Dwain in the starting blocks looking up to heaven as if kneeling inprayer. The brief itself was very straight forward and simple however we had to shoot outside on a track in North London which given the usual weather at this time of year was potentially tricky. As this was for the cover we wanted to have a dark uncluttered background so it seemed best to shoot against black and to just highlight the track area around Dwain.

As fortune had it after a weekend of wet and cold weather the sun shone on the Monday we were to shoot so things were looking good. Dwain had agreed to give us a couple of hours to shoot which was perfect and he was more than happy to do all the we wanted him to do. As with all shoots it's the unforeseen little things that slow us down or trip us up and sure enough Dwain had forgotten his running vest! So off he went to get one and we were suddenly behind schedule as the minutes ticked into our precious shoot time. Twenty minutes later he was back and make-up and baby oil applied we were all set.

The main aim was to get the cover shot and then do a variety of portraits and stretch shots to illustrate the feature. With Dwain's readiness to cooperate everything went very smoothly and we were soon on set up three already with some great shots in the bag. All that remained to do was to get the all important shot with the art director for the magazines notice board!!
