Army Diving
Commissioned by John Butterworth and David Burton from Camouflage magazine.
Heights and water has never been my favourite thing but this must have slipped my mind when John asked me to shoot a feature on the Army diving team. The shoot was to take place at one of the Army's training pools in Aldershot where we would have two of the team for a couple of hours. The idea was to follow the dive in a series of images from the board all the way into the water.

Once the issue of heights was overcome (John likewise was holding on for dear life!) we started to rig some lights to catch the divers at various different stages of the dive. The diving platforms allowed us to have the diver at the 3m level so we could shoot from the 5m platform. We then decided to shoot at water level before donning swimming trunk's and waterproof housings and getting in the water. I wanted to capture some images of the divers as they burst into the water creating explosions of bubbles and body shapes. After that the idea was to get a couple of portraits as they came up for air and had finished the dive.

Two hours passed in no time and before I knew it Billy and Michelle (the kids) were in the pool doing some lengths. Much to John and Dave's amusement!
